Swiss Journal of Geosciences

The Swiss Journal of Geosciences (SJG) is the scientific full Open-Access journal of the Swiss Geological Society. First published in 1888 as “Eclogae Geologicae Helvetiae” it has a long tradition. In 2006 the SJG merged with the «Schweizerische Mineralogische und Petrographische Mitteilungen (Swiss Bulletin of Mineralogy and Petrology; SMPM, first published in 1921) after which the journal was renamed to Swiss Journal of Geosciences. Since 2020 it is published as a full Open Access Journal under Springer and since 2026 it is published with Pensoft Publishers.

Focus & scope

The Swiss Journal of Geosciences is an international fully Open-Access and peer-reviewed journal publishing original research and review articles of interest to the international and Swiss community in the field of Geosciences. A particular focus is on the evolution of the Tethys realm the Alpine/Himalayan orogen and collisional orogens in general. This international journal covers disciplines such as...

  • Tectonics & Structural Geology
  • Petrology & Mineralogy
  • Geochemistry
  • Geophsysics
  • Sedimentology
  • Volcanology
  • Palaeontology
  • Stratigraphy
  • Applied Geology
  • Quaternary Geology
  • Hydrogeology
  • Regional Geology
  • Alpine Geology and Orogenesis.

The journal gives preference to articles that are of wide interest to the international research community while at the same time recognizing the importance of documenting high-quality geoscientific data in a regional context. The diversity of published articles is reflected by the members of our editorial board who guarantee that all articles are single-blind peer-reviewed and meet the highest standards.

Thematic Topic Collections such as the "Alpine Workshop" are published at regular intervals. Contact us if you have a proposal for a Topic Collection.

The Swiss Journal of Geosciences has editorial waivers and discounts available for outstanding contributions and review articles from researchers who lack funding for fully OA publication. Inquiries for waivers or discounts have to be made prior to submission.
