Prize Amanz Gressly
During the General Assembly, the Swiss Palaeontological Society honours the major contribution of a person in the field of palaeontology with the prize "Amanz Gressly".
The achievement of the candidates can be of various nature, such as the safeguard of a particularly important site or the publication of a major scientific work. This tribute is addressed to amateurs as well as to professionals in palaeontology. This distinction originates from the name of the geologist Amanz Gressly (1814-1865) of Bärschwil, precursor of palaeoecology, known in particular to have introduced the concept of “facies”. The prize Amanz Gressly is given each year in the shape of a parchment.
